ABOUT TOUR de SKATE

ABOUT US

THIS IS NOT A SKATE SCHOOL.

Campers visit a different skatepark, sometimes two per day. There will be stops at alternative skate locations, local skateboard shops, and interaction with pros. Monitoring and tracking our skaters at parks is priority, so weekly groups never exceed five.

TDS believes improvement occurs through exposure to different terrains, obstacles, and skaters. We promote camaraderie and stress positive reinforcement among the campers. More than lessons, how-to-lectures, or instructional videos, skaters tend to improve most by just getting out there and skating. It’s about skateboarding culture and fun, and we provide a mighty dose of both.

TDS is open to boys and girls between ages 8 and 13. All experience levels are welcome, but this is an intense five days, and we suggest lessons and visits to skateparks for beginners prior to this camp.

Warning, your child MUST understand he/she will average at least three to four hours of skating a day. There will be breaks, but the emphasis is on skating. Additional activities include skateboard maintenance and care, discussions, and instruction on flexibility and agility.

JIM KALIN, Owner & Overseer

Jim conceived Tour de Skate after hours of trekking his 11 year-old son to skateparks in the greater LA area. He noticed the astounding improvement kids make when consistently on their boards.

Jim wrestled at Ohio State, where he earned a varsity letter. He has taught second-grade phys ed., and coached youth basketball, soccer, baseball, and wrestling. He also knows enough to stay off skateboards.
